Alienware is working on a gaming laptop concept called UFO. It is a portable device with a full version of Windows 10. It is powerful enough to play games that you might play on a regular desktop or laptop
computer.
Sounds like something you might be interested in? At least if you find the idea interesting, and Alienware hopes to do so, the company will officially announce it tomorrow.
As of now, Alienware has only featured the device on its Facebook page. It also has a working version of the concept at its CES booth. There is a lot that remains a mystery though.
Alienware confirms that this is a gaming concept, without a price and no release date
Since this is understandable, there are several things that can change between now and release. This is assuming there is a release in the first place.
So far this is nothing more than an idea that Alienware is put into practice and tested. The company wants to make its laptop games portable in the same way that Nintendo made its console games portable via Switch.
There is currently no release date for the device, nor any price point that Alienware has put on the table. However, Alienware products were not known to be affordable. So don't expect this to be a cheap investment if you successfully market it.
The company is silent on the specifications
The specifications of the device are just as much a mystery as the potential price. However, Alienware may talk about the specifications during tomorrow's official live broadcast.
It may also easily remain silent. The reason is that the UFO is still a primary device that the company plays.
Alienware may also have chosen to remain silent about the hardware components inside because at this early stage, the hardware might turn out. It may not be what works with a prototype that ends up in a production model if a launch does eventually occur.
It should be noted that it is not easy to use highly demanding games, and make them playable on a mobile device such as UFO. Which means Alienware definitely has its business if it continues to work with that vision and work toward a production model.
However, in the era of mobile gaming, there are relatively few good options these days. You have smartphones, which despite the annoyance you receive, have got a very good standard. Then you have a Nintendo Switch.
These are also a couple options that are already on the market and are still getting new games, and allow downloading content. Then you have options like Google Stadia, xCloud, Shadow, and GeForce NOW, which all offer cloud gaming options, but forego local downloads and rely on a stable and fast internet connection to work.
Something like UFO might allow for portable and powerful PC games that run like any other laptop or desktop.
