Android Pie Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018)

Samsung has already achieved an impressive showing by updating Android Pie by pushing it to multiple Galaxy devices in quick succession, and the company is continuing the series this week by releasing the Pie update for the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018), just a few days after the update was released for the device. Galaxy Tab Active 2. And it's not just the tablets that leave Android Oreo behind for more delicious pastures this week - Samsung has updated two phones as well, including the Galaxy A9 Star and Galaxy J7 (2017).

Android Pie is the first major update to the Galaxy Tab A 10.5, but it isn't the last. This mid-range tablet will also get Android Q at some point next year, along with a lot of other Galaxy devices. Pie launched in the UK for the LTE model, although the Wi-Fi model shouldn't be too far behind.
What's new in Pie?

The update contains the usual suspects of new features and functionality. There's a new One UI interface for faster access to important information and easier one-handed use, system-wide night mode, quick switching between Kids Mode, Samsung Keyboard's floating mode, and more.

The changelog indicates support for Galaxy Buds and Gear IconX (2018), but we're not sure if those devices could interfere with the tablet in the first place. The update also includes the June 2019 security patch.

If you have a UK tab A 10.5, you can download the update over the air by opening the Settings app on the tablet, selecting Software Update, and tapping the option to download updates manually. Major updates are rolling out in stages so you might want to check back later if an update isn't available to you right now. Those wanting to go the extra mile can also upgrade by downloading Android Pie firmware.
