Oppo launched three phones in the Reno 2 series last month. Called the Reno 2, Reno 2F, and Reno 2Z, none of the phones have the high-end Snapdragon processor. Although it offers major upgrades over the original Renault, the lack of a flagship SoC and periscope camera means it is not the true successors to the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition. This could soon change with the advent of the Renault 2 5G.
The Oppo Reno 2 5G was spotted on the Chinese certification site TENAA. Although the listing does not reveal much in terms of specifications, the photos clearly show a vertically aligned camera setup on the back. As you can see in the image below, the third sensor in the stack is the square viewfinder, similar to the lens seen on the Reno 10X Zoom Edition and Huawei P30 Pro.
While the Reno 2 features 20x digital zoom, it's not nearly as digital and hybrid as the Reno 10X Zoom. With the addition of the endoscope camera, the Reno 2 5G can offer high-quality hybrid zoom.
Since the Reno 10X Zoom Edition has a triple camera setup, we're not sure what the fourth camera does in this upcoming variant. This could be a selfie camera as shown in the current Renault 2 lineup.
The Reno 2's TENAA listing confirms the 5G to a 6.6-inch screen, which is larger than the rest of the Reno 2 devices. The battery has a capacity of 3,930 mAh and the phone is listed with 5G support.
It is noteworthy that Brian Chen, Oppo VP, recently teased the new Renault device with a 90Hz display and Super VOOC charging. However, he said that this is not a Reno 2, so it could be an entirely new device in the series.
In any case, the TENAA listing of the Renault 2 5G indicates that the launch is close. We will just have to wait and see what Oppo has to offer in the store.
