Samsung launches research for development, digital media and communication

In December 2017, Samsung launched Research by reorganizing its R&D Center for Research and Development, Digital Media and Communications (DMC) into a new entity. Samsung Research will operate as an integrated R & D organization for Samsung's consumer electronics as well as information technology and mobile companies.

Among the organization's priorities will be advancing maturity and progress in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and other areas to ensure Samsung continues to lead the conversation industry.

As a global entity, Samsung Research will operate 22 R&D centers around the world, with a total of 20,000 employees. In addition to driving future innovation, the organization's new mandate will also be to help explore and create new business possibilities.

At a recent launch event, Hyun-Sook Kim, President and Chief Research Officer of Samsung, provided details on the new entity's vision, stressing the vital role each will play in ensuring that Samsung's research reaches its "innovation and intelligence" goal.

"Starting from now, Samsung Research will lead the most advanced technological leadership and innovation based on artificial intelligence techniques to achieve the future everyone dreams, with the most talented people in the world," Hyun-Sook Kim told employees at the event. "In order to realize this vision, one of Samsung's first research missions will be to inculcate a culture of development where everyone encourages each other to innovate as well as participate independently in the development process."

As AI capabilities grow, Samsung's continuous work and leadership aims to build a single robust, resilient and scalable platform for integrating and optimizing technology. Within the R&D environment, and with Samsung research playing a major contributing role, Samsung will connect its technologies together to enable interoperability and simplicity for users, all supported by the latest advanced AI technologies.
