Asus ROG Phone 2 will likely debut in July

The Taiwanese company announced on Weibo that Asus ROG is collaborating with Chinese company
Tencent Games to develop new gaming experiences for mobile phone users. The development process is suggested to start with the development of the Asus ROG Phone 2 that will succeed the original Asus ROG phone that debuted last year.

ROG Phone 2 is expected to arrive in early July to take over the likes of Black Shark 2 and Nubia Red Magic 3. Tencent Games is a subsidiary of Shenzhen-based Tencent Holdings that wholly or partly owns a list of gaming companies.

Including Fortnite Epic Games creator and Riot Games esports championship. It also owns the studio behind PUBG Mobile.

The Weibo post announcing the partnership does not clarify any major future plans, although it does hint at the launch of the Asus ROG Phone 2. The new gaming phone is proposed to be launched in July.

Asus ROG and Tencent Games are being promoted to build new gaming and gaming experiences for mobile users. Moreover, Asus is likely to leverage Tencent's widespread reach in the world of eSports tournaments to expand customer awareness of its ROG brand among traditional players. The ROG brand contains laptops and peripherals, along with the ROG Phone.

Tencent Games was founded as a major subsidiary of Tencent Holdings in 2003. Initially, the entity was popular with online games, although it reached families through PlayUnknown's Battlegrounds nicknamed PUBG - specifically the mobile version of the game. PUBG Mobile surpassed 200 million downloads and achieved over 30 million daily active users in December.

If we look at a recent report from Digitimes, Asus is slated to launch the ROG Phone 2 in the third quarter of this year. The partnership with Tencent was also reported by the Taiwanese post, emphasizing that the link would provide a good boost for the ROG brand which has yet to make a big buck.

As a reminder, Asus unveiled the original ROG phone with Snapdragon 845 SoC and 3D Vapor Chamber cooling at Computex in June last year. The phone was launched in November with a price tag of Rs. 69,999 for 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration.
