A new Reuters report alleges that Huawei is in a patent dispute with Verizon for its unregulated use of an estimated 230 patents. The total fines for these could reach $ 1 billion. The main violations are alleged to be in the network equipment area where an estimated twenty additional vendors are involved. Some of these are widespread American tech companies.
On the lookout for more details, the patent suite ranges from wireline infrastructure to network equipment and IoT solutions. The report also claims that meetings between Huawei and Verizon representatives have already taken place in New York, but neither side has provided details of the topics discussed. Verizon’s Richard Young stated that “The cases are bigger than Verizon only” and that “cases involving Huawei also raise national and international concerns”.
