Apple will receive a lot of OLED panels from Samsung next year. And a new report on Wednesday indicates that Samsung has quadrupled shipments of OLED to the iPhone maker in 2018.
According to industry sources, citing the Korean magazine "Investor", that Samsung Display will supply the technology giant Cupertino with about 180 to 200 million flexible OLED panels for Apple's 2018 iPhone lineup. It is worth noting that this is about four times the amount that Samsung shipped to Apple for the iPhone X this year - which is said to be around 50 million since the start of 2017.
As for the show's Samsung subsidiaries, that would translate to approximately $ 19.8 to $ 22 billion in revenue. This is based on a unit price of $ 110 calculated by the IHS Market research firm. The $ 110 price includes the cost of the display cover glass, as well as the touch sensor.
The report also notes that Samsung is getting more efficient with its OLED production, claiming that the display maker achieved a rate of return of 90 percent - up from the 60 percent recorded earlier this year. Samsung is currently the only company that can produce enough OLED screens that also meet Apple's stringent quality expectations, and this bodes well for both companies. It also notes that shipping estimates for an OLED iPhone next year could improve significantly.
Of course, while a large portion of those OLED panels will be used in the current iPhone X and its successor in 2018, it is also likely that the supply is four times the accounts for the new Apple device. Based on the reports, it appears that this device could be the "iPhone X Plus" that Apple is rumored to launch alongside the second generation iPhone X next year.
It is largely expected to sport a large 6.4-inch OLED screen, similar to the display size of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Despite the huge screen, the iPhone X Plus will likely have a form factor that is closer in physical size to the current iPhone 8 Plus The smaller footprint, rather than the larger Note 8., is clearly the result of Apple's application of edge-to-edge, bezel-free design for the Model Plus model factor. This is a step that makes perfect sense as the demand for plus model phones gets stronger.
The second-generation iPhone X, on the other hand, is likely to retain the 5.8-inch display size of its predecessor. Apple is also expected to shoot its lineup next year with a mid-range 6.1-inch iPhone model that can sport a metallic build and an LCD screen. While Apple is also rumored to be developing the iPhone C2 for the exclusive Indian launch early next year, it is not known when this device will reach other markets.
It's still too early to guess at the price ranges, but assuming that the successor to the iPhone X will retail $ 999, we can guess the price of the iPhone X Plus. Apple usually charges a $ 100 premium for the iPhone Plus-model, which can put the price of the iPhone X Plus at around $ 1,099.
